He or I

A bitter struggle was waged for the liberation of Europe 75 years ago. The exhibition "He or I" at the National Military Museum commemorates this struggle. You'll experience it through the eyes of two soldiers: a Canadian and a German.

Through lifelike dioramas, you experience the story and the emotions of the two soldiers. Léo Major (1921-2008) was born in 1921 in French-speaking Quebec. In 1940, at 18, he volunteered for the Canadian army. Hans Kürten (1925-2019) from Leverkusen grew up in a country under Hitler. In December 1942, he was conscripted to work in Venlo and in June 1943, he was drafted. "He or I" highlights the hard struggle that preceded the liberation celebrations.

A number of special vehicles have been brought to the National Military Museum from abroad: the amphibious vehicle 'Buffalo' used by the Canadians, the German Tiger II tank from England, and a Mercedes G4 (Geländewagen) from Adolf Hitler's personal fleet.

Kloosterboer was responsible for the construction of the exhibition.

The exhibition can be visited from 14 February 2020 to 26 September 2021.
