Him or Me – National Military Museum

A bitter struggle was fought for the liberation of Europe 75 years ago. The exhibition 'He or I' in the National Military Museum reflects on this battle. You experience this battle through the eyes of two soldiers: a Canadian and a German.

You can experience the story and emotion of the two soldiers through lifelike dioramas. Léo Major (1921-2008) was born in 1921 in French-speaking Québec. In 1940, as an 18-year-old, he volunteered for the Canadian army. Hans Kürten (1925-2019) from Leverkusen grew up in a country under Hitler. In December 1942 he was forced to work in Venlo and in June 1943 he had to go into service. He or I highlights the hard struggle that preceded the festivities of liberation.

A number of special vehicles have been brought from abroad to the National Military Museum: the amphibious vehicle 'Buffalo' used by the Canadians, the German Tiger II tank from England and a Mercedes G4 (Geländewagen) from Adolf Hitler's personal fleet.

Kloosterboer was responsible for the construction of the exhibition.

The exhibition can be visited from February 14, 2020 to September 26, 2021.
